Wales vs. England live score, updates, highlights as two of rugby’s oldest rivals do battle in 2023 Six Nations

Both England and Wales took part in this Six Nations tournament under the guidance of new head coaches, with Warren Gatland returning to Wales’ top job and England bringing in Steve Borthwick to replace Eddie Jones.

Both managers suffered defeat in their first Six Nations games in 2023, with Wales beaten at home by Ireland and England losing to Scotland in the last minute at Twickenham.

England got back on track with a win over Italy at Twickenham – the first of Borthwick’s tenure – but were far from convincing with ball in hand, despite scoring five tries in the 31-14 win. Meanwhile, Wales were hammered by an inspired Scotland at Murrayfield, losing 35-7 to compound a miserable start to Gatland’s return.

Wales vs England Live Commentary, Highlights

30 minutes after kick-off: Wales manager Warren Gatland has made nine changes after the tough defeat by Scotland, with the experienced minds of Justin Tipuric and Alun Wyn Jones back in the pack. The electric winger Louis Rees-Zammit is also back and is hoping for long-distance success.

45 minutes after kick-off: Wales’ preparation for the game has been severely disrupted in recent weeks by a contract dispute between players and the WRU board. Crisis talks were held last Wednesday to appease player demands to avert the threat of a possible strike action that would have resulted in this game being abandoned!

60 minutes after kick-off: It was also less than the ideal start to the tournament for England after losing to Scotland 29-23 in the final minutes thanks to a try from Duhan van der Merwe. They responded a week later with a first win under Steve Borthwick, but despite their five tries, they were still pretty shaky in open play!

75 minutes after kick-off: Wales are bottom of the table with zero points from their two games so far. Both have also posted convincing defeats, conceding nine tries in total in 34-10 and 35-7 losses to Ireland and Scotland respectively.

90 minutes after kick-off: Welcome to the live broadcast of this much-anticipated clash of the Six Nations as old rivals Wales and England meet in Cardiff. It’s a duel between two teams in a transition period with new coaches at the helm and two teams that haven’t really scored in this year’s league.
