Watch Arsenal vs. Liverpool: Live stream, score prediction, TV channel, how to watch online, start time, odds

Arsenal remain leaders in the ninth round of Premier League action but Liverpool could test their credentials as one of England’s best sides at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The visitors have been the yardstick the Gunners have fallen short of in recent years. This game could allow them to lay claim to being the best of the rest behind Manchester City this season.

The stakes are perhaps even bigger for Liverpool, who could go into this game 13 points adrift of City, albeit with two games in hand. Even now, there seems a possibility that the Premier League title may have slipped out of reach, as has the pace set by Pep Guardiola’s side. However, in recent years if any side has been able to unleash the winning streak needed to win the reigning champions, it has been Liverpool. North London would be a great place to start this.

storylines

Arsenal: Mikel Arteta’s side find themselves on the Thursday-Sunday treadmill universally loathed by strength and conditioning coaches across the Premier League. But they at least passed their first test with flying colours, 3:0 against Bodo/Glimt. One might have expected older players to be held in reserve for the Liverpool game, but players such as Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka all played in the Europa League; Those few critics of Arteta who remain in the Arsenal fan base will be looking for evidence that he made a mistake by using up some of their reserves of fitness

“We have an understanding of what we want to do,” said the Arsenal head coach. “But this is football and there are so many uncontrollable circumstances that determine whether we go this way or that – we use this player or that player. It’s something no one has experienced before, so we’re a bit empty there. So we’re trying to prepare, we’re trying to understand how we can protect the players extra, for their well-being.”

Liverpool: The Reds’ return to winning ways against Rangers midweek came in an odd way, at least in terms of the formation they played, something close to a 4-4-2, with Mohamed Salah playing significantly wider than he did it would normally do. Was this just a one-off thing to get a Champions League result or could it be an approach Liverpool return to on the road this weekend? Jurgen Klopp does not want to give any answers.

“It’s more important for us that we get unpredictable again, so we need different systems for that,” he said. “We have to decide which one is best for us against the next opponent. We have to become more unpredictable.”
