What you should know

The West Virginia Mountaineers have been 7-0 up against the Kansas Jayhawks since November 2015 and have a chance to continue that success on Saturday. The Mountaineers and Kansas will face off in a Big 12 fight at 6:00 p.m. ET at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium. Kansas will march in after a win, while West Virginia will stumble in after a loss.

It was 10-10 at halftime, but West Virginia wasn’t quite level with the Pittsburgh Panthers in the second half when they met last week. West Virginia fell to the Panthers 38-31. A silver lining for West Virginia was the play of TE CJ Donaldson, who rushed with seven carries, a TD and 125 yards.

Meanwhile, if you finish by 312 yards more than your opponent, like the Jayhawks did last Friday, a positive result is almost certain. They took their competition at home with ease, bagging a 56-10 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. The game was pretty decided after halftime when the score had already reached 35-3. Kansas’ RB Devin Neal looked sharp as he rushed with four carries on two TDs and 108 yards. Neal put himself on the highlight reel in the third quarter with an 80-yard TD scramble.

The Kansas defense was also present as it got past Tennessee Tech’s offensive line to sack the quarterback five times for a total loss of 25 yards. Above all DE Lonnie Phelps and his three sacks. Those were Phelps’ first sacks.

West Virginia’s loss put them 1-0 down, while Kansas’ win put them 1-0 down. We’ll see if West Virginia can steal the Jayhawks’ fortunes or if Kansas records another win instead.
