Arsenal return to the Europa League on Thursday after bowing out for the play-offs and Mikel Arteta’s side will look to maintain some momentum after four straight league wins
Arsenal travel to Portugal to return to European competition, with Sporting Lisbon as their Europa League round of 16 opponent.
Mikel Arteta’s side go into the game with four straight wins in the Premier League, with Saturday’s last-minute win over Bournemouth keeping them five points clear at the top. Their opponents are also in fine form domestically, having won six of the last seven in the Primeira Liga.
Arsenal bowed out in the last round after ousting PSV Eindhoven to first place in their group while Sporting were forced to progress through a play-off round. Ruben Amorim’s side drew at home with FC Midtjylland but defeated the Danes 4-0 in the second leg to progress.

Team News
Arsenal were without Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus for their game against Bournemouth, while Leandro Trossard hobbled off early. “It worries me, he came to me straight away and said he couldn’t continue, he felt something when he drove back so we had to take his clothes off,” Arteta said of Belgium international Trossard.
Jesus recently returned to training after picking up an injury while representing Brazil at the World Cup, while Nketiah was knocked out on Saturday. While Jesus is said to be “not far” from a return, this game could come too soon for him, although Nketiah could be in line.
Jorginho returned from illness to take his place on the bench on Saturday but fellow midfielder Mohamed Elneny is unlikely to be available. No timetable has been given for the Egyptian’s return, who was last featured in January.
Sporting could add former Arsenal star Hector Bellerin to their side after the right-back scored his first goal for the club in February. However, they will be without Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who is suspended after two cautions in the Champions League group stage and another yellow card against Midtjylland.
