There are two titles at stake at UFC 280. Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev fight for the vacant UFC lightweight title while Aljamain Sterling is defending the UFC bantamweight title against TJ Dillashaw.

The event will take place on October 22nd at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Oliveira beat Michael Chandler for the UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 262, but at UFC 274 he lacked the weight for his fight against Justin Gaethje and was stripped of his belt. Oliveira won the fight via submission, but he couldn’t be called a champion.

Makhachev is a former world combat sambo champion who made his professional debut in 2010. He made his UFC debut in 2015. Makhachev has won 10 in a row; His last fight was a TKO win over Bobby Green in February.

Sterling defeated Petr Yan by disqualification following an illegal knee by Yan for the 2021 UFC Bantamweight Title. In April, he won a rematch against Yan to defend the belt.

Dillashaw made his pro debut in 2010 and joined the UFC in 2011. Dillashaw defeated Renan Barao for the UFC Bantamweight Title in 2014’s The Ultimate Fighter. He lost the title to Dominick Cruz in 2016. After winning two fights in a row, he beat Cody Garbrandt to regain the belt in 2017.

In 2019 he faced Henry Cejudo for the flyweight title and lost. After the fight, Dillashaw was suspended for testing positive for a banned substance, recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO). He was stripped of the bantamweight title. Dillashaw returned to action in 2021, beating Cory Sandhagen by split decision.
