BC voters will elect their next local and state governments this weekend, October 15.

Competitive racing has emerged in the southern Okanagan.

Here are the lists of all candidates running in the Southern Okanagan:

Mayoral candidate Bloomfield is currently Penticton City Councillor. Global News has delved deeper into the city’s five-way race for mayor.

The Penticton Western News covered a crime and housing forum during the campaign.

In addition to the four incumbents, Jakubeit and Konanz both previously served on the Penticton City Council and Schwartzenberger is an outgoing councilor for the City of Oliver.

Mayoral candidate Reynen and Hall, Kruger and Stewart, who are running for local council, are members of Clean Streets Penticton, a crime-fighting activist group.

WHO CAN VOTE

• You must be a Canadian citizen;
• at least 18 years of age on October 15, 2022;
• BC residents at least 6 months prior to the date you register to vote;
• a resident of the municipality (no minimum duration) or a qualified non-resident real estate voter (must have owned the real estate for at least 30 days prior to the date you register to vote); and not excluded from the right to vote.
• You are disqualified from voting if you have been convicted of a criminal offense and are currently in custody or if you have been convicted of an electoral violation.


WHAT TO BRING

Eligible voters must present two forms of ID to prove both their residency and their identity. At least one ID must be signed. Your ID does not have to include a photo. Acceptable forms of identification are:

• BC driver’s license*
• ICBC vehicle insurance
• BC identification card
• BC service card*
• Citizenship Card
• Property tax notice
• Social security number card
• Credit card
• Utility bill for council residence (electricity, natural gas, water, phone or cable service)
*NOTE: A combination of BC driver’s license and services card only counts as one piece of identification


WHERE TO VOTE

All polling stations are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

In Penticton, ballots may be dropped off at the Penticton Trade and Convention Center at 273 Power Street or at the Seniors’ Drop-In Center or Seniors’ Drop-In Center at 2965 South Main Street.

In Summerland, voting takes place in the high school gymnasium at 9518 Main Street.

Further south at the Oliver Community Center, 6359 Park Dr. and in Osoyoos at the Sonora Center, 8505 68 Ave. citizen elections held.
