Which cricket stadiums have a goal or stand named after Sachin Tendulkar?

Three cricket stadiums around the world have so far named a goal or stand at the venue in honor of legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

  1. Wankhede Stadium: It comes as no surprise that the very first cricket stadium to honor Tendulkar was none other than Wankhede Stadium in his birthplace, Mumbai. The iconic stadium, which already had two stands (east and west) named after the famous Mumbai cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Vijay Merchant, two main gates named after Polly Umrigar and Vinoo Mankad and a cladding after Vijay Manjrekar, decided to rename the grandstand above the MCA Pavilion as the ‘Sachin Tendulkar Stand’ in 2001.
  2. Sydney cricket ground: To mark Sachin Tendulkar’s 50th birthday, Australia’s legendary Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) named one of its goals after the Indian legend. Along with Tendulkar, the great West Indies Brian Lara was honored. The venue used to have a Sir Don Bradman gate which was used by the Australia cricket team to enter the stadium. Now the visiting teams enter the stadium through the gates Tendulkar and Lara.
  3. Sharjah Cricket Stadium: Sharjah Cricket Stadium became the latest venue to honor the batting legend. They renamed the West Stand to “Sachin Tendulkar Stand” a day after Tendulkar’s 50th birthday. The renaming also coincided with the 25th anniversary of the batsman’s famous innings against Australia in the Coca-Cola Cup. On 22-24 April 1998 he scored hundreds of goals in a row against Australia which helped India win the Sharjah Cup. His century in the penultimate game of the tournament is known as the “Desert Storm,” in which he hit 143 of 131 balls.
