Who is Autumn Lockwood? Meet the Eagles assistant and first Black woman to coach in Super Bowl
Super Bowl 57 is already historic as the first Super Bowl to feature two black quarterbacks under the middle, but Autumn Lockwood is making history of her own.
Lockwood, an assistant athletic performance coach for the Eagles, will be the first black woman to coach in the Super Bowl when Philadelphia and Kansas City meet in Arizona.
While Lockwood isn’t the first woman to train in the Super Bowl, she’s also joining this exclusive group. Her performance comes against the backdrop of Black History Month in February, and she will make history less than two weeks after National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Here’s everything you need to know about Lockwood as she prepares to help the Eagles win a championship.

Who is Autumn Lockwood?
Lockwood announced in August that she was joining the Eagles as an assistant athletic performance coach. Although new to Philadelphia, she has a wealth of experience as a strength coach.
Lockwood previously served as an athletic performance coordinator at the University of Houston for a year and a half and was a 2019 strength and conditioning intern with the Atlanta Falcons.
In addition to Houston and the Falcons, Lockwood has served in various strength and conditioning roles at the University of Arizona, UNLV and East Tennessee State.

The Eagles strength and conditioning team can be proud this season as the talented roster has been one of the healthiest in football. After the return of Avonte Maddox, Philadelphia entered the NFC Championship game with all 22 active starters. That’s hard to achieve any week, let alone in the playoffs.
Lockwood shouted out to the rest of the Eagles’ strength and conditioning staff as they celebrated the team’s NFC title in January.
Women have had a growing presence on the NFL coaching staff in recent years, and Lockwood joins a select number of women who have been given the opportunity to coach in the league’s biggest game.

Lockwood will become the fourth woman to coach in the Super Bowl, joining former 49ers offensive assistant Katie Sowers, former Buccaneers assistant Lori Locust and current Buccaneers assistant Maral Javadifar.
Locust and Javadifar became the first female coaches to win the Super Bowl when Tampa passed Kansas City in Super Bowl 55.

Locust was fired by the Buccaneers along with several assistants after a disappointing 2022 season, but she was recently hired by the Titans as a defensive assistant. Javadifar was promoted from Tampa to Director of Rehabilitation/Performance Coach in 2022.
Lockwood hopes to become the first black coach to win a Super Bowl when the Eagles take on the Chiefs on Sunday.
