Who is Markus Krösche? Exciting name linked with Liverpool sporting director job
Reports today have linked Liverpool with a move for Markus Krösche from Eintracht Frankfurt as the Reds prepare to appoint a new sporting director if Julian Ward departs at the end of the season.
Ward only stepped into the role last summer when he replaced Michael Edwards, but his intention to leave was made public in November.
Both Ward and Edwards are seen as key figures in Liverpool’s success following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp in 2016, with the duo playing significant roles in recruitment and contract management.

Despite this, the Reds are making progress in their quest and are expected to make an appointment when Ward leaves. According to The Athletic, AS Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell has been “under consideration” but is now set to stay with the Ligue 1 team.
The same report said Krösche is a “potential candidate who is attracting interest at Anfield” having built an impressive reputation at the Waldstadion.
Krösche came to Frankfurt from RB Leipzig in 2021, where he had only been appointed to succeed Ralf Rangnick two years earlier. His arrival has given the Eagles an immense boost.
After overseeing the arrival of key players such as Mario Götze, Randal Kolo Muani and Jesper Lindstrøm, Krösche played a crucial role in helping the club win the UEFA Europa League in 2022.

Frankfurt are then preparing for a UEFA Champions League round of 16, which is only their second time in the competition against Napoli.
However, he immersed himself in the world of coaching before moving into a more administrative role. Krösche became coach of SC Paderborn 07 in 2014 before becoming Roger Schmidt’s assistant at Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
In his rather unremarkable playing career, Krösche is best known for making 356 appearances in 13 years with Paderborn in the lower German leagues, while also playing for Werder Bremen’s second team.
The summer transfer window promises to be exciting for Liverpool, with players like Jude Bellingham among the club’s top targets.
