Who is Markus Krosche? Liverpool sporting director target profiled

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krosche is emerging as a candidate for the position of Liverpool’s new sporting director at the end of the season.

That’s according to The Athletic, who report that Krosche is “raising interest in Anfield” ahead of a potential move.

Liverpool have seen some real upheaval in their recruitment department of late.

Michael Edwards left his post as Liverpool’s sporting director last summer, with Julian Ward taking his place.

Ward now plans to leave Anfield at the end of the season as well, leaving Liverpool to look for another sporting director.

A few names have been mentioned in recent months, including former Arsenal man Sven Mislintat.

It’s another German this time, however, as Frankfurt boss Krosche is believed to be a Liverpool target.

Who is Liverpool target Markus Krosche?

Krosche was a Paderborn hero during his playing days, spending 13 years at the club and amassing more than 350 appearances after a stint with Werder Bremen’s second team.

Krosche moved into management after his playing days when he took over Paderborn II, but he only lasted a year.

After a stint as Roger Schmidt’s assistant at Bayer Leverkusen, Krosche turned his attention to recruitment.

After becoming Paderborn’s sporting director, Krosche landed an important job when he took on the same role at RB Leipzig.

A key part of the Leipzig operation, Krosche oversaw incoming deals for Dani Olmo, Christopher Nkunku, Josko Gvardiol and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Krosche was also involved in the big sale of Timo Werner to Chelsea before joining Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021.

The 42-year-old has continued to build his reputation since Frankfurt won the Europa League last season.

Krosche secured the signing of Jesper Lindstrom, a player Liverpool have been linked with, as well as Randal Kolo Muani, Mario Götze and Paxten Aaronson.

Krosche’s good work in Germany could now land him a move to Liverpool where he would work alongside fellow countryman Jurgen Klopp.

A history in the Red Bull setup tends to be attractive for Liverpool and Krosche could fit into the future as Ward’s successor.
