Who is singing the national anthem at Super Bowl 2023? Meet the country music star chosen to perform in Arizona
“The Star-Spangled Banner” is played before the start of almost every sporting event in the United States. But there’s no bigger stage than before the opening kickoff in the Super Bowl.
With hundreds of millions of viewers each year, the performer has a huge responsibility on his shoulders to get it right. This year, that responsibility falls to country music star Chris Stapleton.
Who will sing the national anthem at the 2023 Super Bowl?
Chris Stapleton is an eight-time Grammy Award winner who hails from Kentucky.
His musical career took off in the early 2000s. After studying engineering at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee for a year, he dropped out and moved to Nashville, where he began pursuing music full-time.
After performing with various bands for more than a decade, Stapleton released his debut solo album, Travellerin 2015. It received critical acclaim, peaking at number one on the US Billboard 200 and winning the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. The album was certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

His cover of the song “Tennessee Whiskey” took his career to new heights and remains one of his most popular songs with 672 million views on YouTube at the time of writing.
He has also co-written six number one country songs and collaborated with big names like Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan and George Strait.
Stapleton’s performance at the Super Bowl is fitting considering he played football as a student at Johnson Central High School in Paintsville, Ken.
When does Super Bowl 56 start?
Super Bowl 57 between the Chiefs and the Eagles is scheduled to kick off Sunday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. local time). The game will be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ari.
The other leading lady of the evening will be Rihanna, who will star in the halftime show.
