Why The Mandalorian’s Latest Episode Has Me Super Suspicious Of One Character
Warning! The following contains SPOILERS for The Mandalorian Season 3 episode “The Spies”. Read at your own risk!
The Mandalorian Season 3 may have gotten off to a slow start, but the Disney+ series really hit the gas pedal during The Spies. This episode gave us the return of Moff Gideon as well as a taste of Grand Admiral Thrawn and other happenings in what was left of the Empire. It could also have alluded to a big reveal that wasn’t so obvious, and having seen it, let’s just say I’m more suspicious of The Armorer than before.
For the record, I just recently wrote about how The Armorer gave me villain vibes from the jump. Now, after The Spies, I’m extremely suspicious of her intentions and how much we really know about her character and role The Mandalorian overall for the following reasons.
The episode was called “The Spies”
If you revisit this episode of The Mandalorian With your Disney+ subscription, you’ll notice that the episode was called The Spies. However, if you actually watch the episode, aside from an appearance by Katy O’Brian’s Elia Kane (who helped lay the groundwork for Gideon’s return earlier in the season), we didn’t see any other spies. It did war of stars are you making a mistake with its title by putting it in the plural?
My guess is no, and that the title is intentionally called “The Spies” because it lets viewers know that another spy is operating in secret The Mandalorian. As to who that might be, I mentioned that I already had my guesses as to the Armorer’s true intentions. This episode only made that worse after it ended and more or less convinced me that she’s the other spy in the mix.
The Armorer was conveniently gone during the capture
The Mandalorian ended with Din Djarin captured, Paz Vizsla likely dead, and Bo-Katan and the newly outfitted Grogu narrowly escaping with the rest of the undercover. What began as a mission to establish a presence on Mandalore quickly fell apart as Gideon and his beskar armored soldiers took control. In the meantime, The Armorer was able to exit the scene and presumably return to the ship unharmed. If Gideon had known of their arrival, wouldn’t he have prepared something to intercept them?
We don’t know much about The Armorer, and to be perfectly honest, Din or Bo-Katan don’t seem to either. Paz Vizsla seemed to spend a lot of time with her, but now that he’s seemingly dead, the characters have lost anyone who may have had information on any time they spent off-world or in secret communication with others.
It also has to be said that Beskar is normally only worked by Mandalorian weaponsmiths, so the ability to fuse it is a closely guarded secret. Did Moff Gideon get this secret between arriving on Mandalore and crafting armor for himself and his troops, or did someone do it for him? I have my theories, but the only thing we can reasonably suspect is that there is far more to this story than we currently know.
The Mandalorian Stream on Disney+ (opens in new tab) Wednesdays. Seems like the seeds are being planted for this corner war of stars Universe among many other things for the franchise, so be sure to rewatch this and other episodes for clues as to what lies ahead.
