Wimbledon draw 2023 LIVE: Latest updates as Andy Murray learns fate
Andy Murray addresses rumors of his retirement ahead of his 15th Wimbledon tournament
The draw for this year’s Wimbledon takes place this morning as Andy Murray prays for a favorable opening round after missing out on seedings for the Championships.
Murray has hopes of reaching the back end of the tournament after the two-time Wimbledon champion clinched titles in Surbiton and Nottingham, but the 36-year-old faces an opportunity in the early stages to face one of the world’s best players in the competition.
“I have to be prepared for that,” Murray said after losing an appearance to Holger Rune this week. “I have to be ready to play against anyone from the start. I’ve had some pretty difficult first-round draws at the Slams over the past few years, so I have to be prepared for that and I think I will be.”
Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek are the top seeds for Wimbledon this year, while Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina will look to defend their titles on SW19’s iconic grass pitches.

Coco Gauff is convinced of Wimbledon success
Coco Gauff believes she is on the road to Grand Slam glory in the near future after beating doubles partner Jessica Pegula and reaching the semi-finals of the rainy Rothesay International in Eastbourne.
Gauff had said earlier in the week that he feels like a contender for any major tournament and is gaining confidence ahead of Friday’s Wimbledon draw. “That would be the greatest thing,” said the 2022 French Open finalist about the prospect of a Grand Slam title.
“I don’t know how my career will turn out, but I believe that with the day-to-day work that I do, I give myself the best opportunity and opportunity, and that’s all I can control.”
“Obviously I’ll do my best when I get on the pitch, but I definitely feel like I’m on the way to getting one soon.”

Novak Djokovic was victorious on British turf when he defeated Frances Tiafoe at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic in Hurlingham.
The 36-year-old will be looking to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles in the next two weeks and he appeared completely at ease in a carefree duel at the show event.
As he has routinely done in recent years, Djokovic did not attend an official warm-up tournament, instead emphasizing rest and recovery after winning his 23rd Grand Slam title at the French Open.
The Serb trained with Italy’s Jannik Sinner on Center Court on Thursday afternoon before making the short trip across the river to Hurlingham, where he cracked the ball in a 6-3, 3-6 (10/7) win over Tiafoe .

Andy Murray revealed he has a plan on how he wants to retire from tennis but has assured fans it will be a while yet.
The two-time Wimbledon champion turned 36 in May and continues to defy expectations of what you can achieve with a metal hip.
While Novak Djokovic is as dominant as ever, Murray has seen one of his other great rivals, Roger Federer, exit and Rafael Nadal announced his intention to quit the game a day after a finals tournament next year.
As Murray struggled to recover from his hip problem, he felt something of a resignation, telling the PA news agency: “That’s an experience I’ve had where I didn’t know if I could play again.”
“So there’s no way I want to put myself in that position – I want to end my career on the tennis court. I have an idea of when I want to stop and a plan for it – certainly not immediate.”

Why are Russian and Belarusian players allowed to play in Wimbledon again?
Russian and Belarusian players will return to Wimbledon this year as neutrals after the All England Club lifted its ban on players from both countries playing in the championship.
Wimbledon was the only one of the four Grand Slam tournaments to ban players from Russia and Belarus after invading Ukraine in February 2022, but has been criticized for doing so by the men’s and women’s professional tours.
In response, Wimbledon was stripped of its ranking points and the Lawn Tennis Association was fined after the ban on Russian and Belarusian players was extended to the UK’s other summer grass events.
But in March this year, the All England Club announced it had reversed its decision ahead of this year’s Wimbledon, allowing Russian and Belarusian players to participate provided they agreed to several strict conditions.
Here you will find everything you need to know.
