With iOS 16, Here’s How to Recover Deleted Text Messages on Your iPhone
It may seem surprising, but if you’ve ever wanted to recover a deleted text message on iOS 15, the only way to do it was to hope you had a backup with that particular text message, and then recover yours iPhone.
It’s a tedious process for what should be a simple task, but thankfully it’s now been simplified iOS 16.
Instead of worrying about restoring a backup, now you can find the deleted texts on your device and restore them back to the Messages app with just a few taps. The process is simple, but you need to know where to look before you can recover deleted text messages. Here’s how.

First find your deleted text messages
You can find all your deleted text messages in the Messages app. To find your messages in the trash, open Messages and tap filter Option at the top left of your text threads. Here you can filter your text messages by known senders, unread messages, and more. However, the option we want is Recently deleted.
A list of your recent text messages is displayed, containing phone numbers or contacts, the number of messages, and the days remaining until they are permanently deleted. This includes entire message threads as well as individual texts that are deleted. However, you can only see (and recover) deleted messages if they were deleted in the last 30 days, so you’ll need to act fairly quickly.
Also, you can’t see the actual messages themselves, so you’ll have to recover them by recognizing the contact’s name or phone number. Once recovered, you can read the lyrics.
Then recover your deleted text messages
To restore a text message, tap the thread or message so that it is selected and click on it recovered bottom right and then tap restore message in the appearing popup. You can also recover all your deleted text messages at once – don’t select a message and then just tap Restore everything.
Your recovered text messages will be displayed one by one from the moment they were sent or received. As such, you may have to scroll through your existing texts a bit to find them, especially if they are old and you have a lot of new messages in your inbox.
