World Baseball Classic schedule 2023: Complete dates, times, TV channels for every WBC game

The World Baseball Classic is back and all roads lead to Miami in 2023.

Twenty teams will compete for the title currently held by the United States after beating Puerto Rico at Dodger Stadium in 2017. The 20-team field is the largest ever at the World Baseball Classic. Only 16 teams played in the previous four iterations.

The field is absolutely packed this year, with the Dominican Republic, the United States and Japan being favorites to win. Japan is the only two-time WBC champion, taking the crown in 2006 and 2009. This year’s finals, to be held in Miami, also have a different flavor as all four previous championships have been held on the US West Coast.

In addition to the United States, Chinese Taipei and Japan will host matches. Pool A and Pool B will be played at Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium and Tokyo Dome, respectively, while Pool C will be played at Chase Field in Arizona and Pool D at LoanDepot Park in Miami.

In terms of players to watch out for, the Dominican Republic field one of the busiest squads in recent memory. Rafael Devers, Wander Franco, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Manny Machado, Julio Rodriguez and Juan Soto are just a few of his position players. The United States will have the likes of Nolan Arenado, Mookie Betts and Mike Trout. Japan’s headliner is, of course, Shohei Ohtani.

While each team has plenty of exciting talent, many of whom will be making their debuts, these three are the runaway favorites and all in different pools. Can any team take them down? Only time can tell.
