Wilson marches through
Gary Wilson advanced to the semi-finals with an elegant 4-1 win over Lukas Kleckers.
The hero of this season’s Scottish Open has been in fine form all along, staggering breaks of 70, 79, 99, 103 and 86 in a brilliant blitz.
Kleckers actually pinched the opening frame, but he couldn’t live with Tyneside Terror, who narrowly missed a beat-all match and marched into the last four.
The captain fights back
After trailing 2-0 to Stuart Bingham, Ali Carter went from 87 and 72 to 2-2 thanks to breaks.
Meanwhile, Gary Wilson leads 2-1 against Lukas Kleckers and Pang Junxu and Oliver Lines are tied 1-1.
Selby makes a flying start
Mark Selby and Stuart Bingham are at the start this morning.
Selby leads John Higgins 2-0, Scot is yet to record a point. Selby has had breaks of 99 and 80.
Bingham keeps Ali Carter calm and also leads 2-0 in the race to four.
Eight remain while classic glory awaits
The WST Classic has reached its final day in Leicester, with four quarter-finals starting at 1000.
We’ve sent home a lot of big names already this week and injury meant Ronnie O’Sullivan only played one match before being eliminated from the tournament.
As a result, the top half of the draw has really opened up and now presents a huge opportunity for the likes of Gary Wilson and Lukas Kleckers, who clash in the last eight, as well as Pang Junxu and Oliver Lines.
Stuart Bingham and Ali Carter are likely to put up a tough fight in the third quarter-final, but the tie of the round is undoubtedly between former world champions Mark Selby and John Higgins.
Selby came from behind to overtake Robbie Williams in the round of 16 on Wednesday night but can usually count on him to improve in the latter stages of tournaments.
As for Higgins, he has seemingly turned his season around and looked sharp as he tapped in his 4-2 win over Kyren Wilson in two centuries to seal his place in the last eight.
