Yuvraj, Raina react after sports brand answers former WI player’s plea | Cricket

Earlier this week, former West Indian cricketer Winston Benjamin’s statement about the lack of quality sports equipment went viral after a popular Indian Twitter account posted a picture about it. Benjamin trains with youth in Antigua and had asked for racquets and other equipment in a video interaction with an Indian journalist. The tweet went viral and caught the attention of sports giants PUMA, who immediately endorsed it.

They tweeted: “We hear you Winston. Let’s pad these kids up on Friday #WinstonBenjamin and earlier this morning they announced with another tweet that the gear was packed and sent for delivery. PUMA included a colorful image of the cricket kit complete with bats and gloves and tweeted, “All packed and ready to take off #WinstonBenjamin.”

PUMA’s heartwarming gesture caught the attention of former Indian left-hander Suresh Raina. In a congratulatory reply to PUMA’s tweet, Raina wrote, “Congratulations Team @pumacricket….Great work.”

On the other hand, another former Indian star Yuvraj Singh hilariously complained about not being given a jersey. In a lighthearted tweet, Yuvraj wrote: “Cats look way too cool, where’s my kit? I have a cricket tournament ahead of me.”

At the beginning of the interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Benjamin had said that he does not want thousands of dollars in money, but needs help with equipment.

“We used to have a tournament in Sharjah where it just became a charity match for cricketers from different countries. I don’t want $20,000 and all I want is someone to say, “Here’s some equipment — 10-15 bats.” So I can give it to the kids,” Benjamin had said.

As a sporting goods manufacturer, PUMA is known for supporting athletes and athletes around the world. In May last year, the company helped Zimbabwean cricketer Ryan Burl provide trainers after he complained on Twitter about having to tape his worn-out shoes after every cricket series due to a lack of sponsors.
