AFL Coaches Association 2023: Four perfect 10s in round one as coaches votes are determined

The first round of the 2023 AFL season is on the books and what an impressive start to the year.

Among all the individual awards, the AFL and its coaches have teamed up to create an AFL Coaches Association (AFLCA) Champion Player of the Year award.

Introduced in 2003, the award is determined by all coaches who cast 5,4,3,2,1 votes at their discretion after each home and away game, recognizing individual achievements during a season.

Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver has won the last two AFLCA Player of the Year awards but was joined by Gold Coast’s Touk Miller in 2022.

Gary Ablett Jr. has won the award three times (2007-2009), the most of any player.

Nathan Buckley was named the 2003 inaugural AFLCA Player of the Year.
