Arsenal star Gabriel hits out at latest Brazil snub
Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes slammed on social media after he was last eliminated from the Brazil squad.
Ramon Menezes, the Selecao’s U20s coach, has stepped in temporarily for the senior team following Tite’s resignation following their quarter-final elimination at the 2022 World Cup.
Gabriel was disappointed not to feature in Qatar but would have hoped to return to the side given his outstanding recent form for the Gunners.
Instead, Menezes has signed a number of young players ahead of the upcoming friendly against Morocco, including teenaged defenders Arthur and Robert Renan.
The former Lille centre-back took to social media to vent his frustration by suggesting he needs to take up a new sport to gain international recognition, before later deleting the tweet.
Gabriel has formed half of the central defensive partnership that has underpinned Arsenal’s bid for the Premier League title alongside the increasingly impressive William Saliba.
The pair were involved in what appeared to be a mild altercation at the final whistle against Leicester last week but Mikel Arteta downplayed the incident and insisted the pair were like a married couple.
He said: “They are a happy marriage – they love to play together! But they really challenge each other, which is good. All is well.’
Ahead of this afternoon’s game against Bournemouth, Arteta insisted he always knew Saliba was capable of making a difference despite loaning him out twice during the formative stages of his Arsenal career.
“The first question was how the player will integrate back into our dynamic after such a long absence,” Arteta said when asked about Saliba’s integration last summer.
“Is there a frustration, something personal, for example between me and the player because he couldn’t understand it?
“Or his environment, his expectations coming back, or the amount we paid for him, his age?
“Is it the same in France as it is in this league for Arsenal because you don’t have top-level 21-year-old defenders in England?”
“I didn’t speak to him for the first week. I just wanted to see – without really interfering with his thoughts, of course – how he was doing.
‘Because then you can really understand him and after that I talked to him.’
