Boston is 4-1-0 this season after Thursday’s shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AP) — Kirill Kaprizov scored a 3-02 goal in overtime to lead the Minnesota Wild to a 4-3 comeback win over the Vancouver Canucks Thursday night for their first win of the season.

Kaprizov scored his fourth goal of the season and added two assists as Minnesota wrapped up their four home game opener with their first points of the season. Mats Zuccarello added two goals and Sam Steel scored his second of the season.

Marc-Andre Fleury finished with 23 saves for Minnesota.

“To get a win like that, you just believe, or hope and believe that that’s going to drive us to do what we’re doing,” said Wild coach Dean Evason. “We still lost our composure in a lot of areas in today’s hockey game, which is uncharacteristic, but I think it was probably to be expected when we’re clenching so tightly. Hopefully we can loosen up a bit with that.”

Bo Horvat scored for the third straight game, Dakota Joshua had a goal and an assist and Nils Aman scored his first NHL goal for Vancouver to lose another lead.

Thatcher Demko made 33 saves for the Canucks.

Vancouver led by several goals in each of their first four games, losing each and walking away by just a point in an overtime loss to Columbus in the previous game. It missed another advantage in the third period.

“Each of the games we were either leading or dividing with less than seven minutes left and we didn’t get a win and that’s very frustrating,” said Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau. “So we know what we’re capable of and when we flip it, it flips for a long time and we just want to do it fast.”

While the Canucks have struggled to maintain the lead this season, the Wild have struggled to lead.

Zuccarello’s first goal of the game gave Minnesota their first lead of the new year 4:37 in the first period.

The lead lasted just 3:21 when Horvat scored his fourth goal of the season from a give-and-go, tapping a pass from Tanner Pearson down the middle.

Aman, who was drafted in the sixth round by the Colorado Avalanche in 2020, added his first in his fifth career game. Joshua sent Aman alone at Fleury with a behind-the-back pass and Aman hit Fleury with a wrist shot.

“It’s always fun to score,” said Aman. “Got a nice pass from Joshua and had some speed so I was just trying to get to the net and it went in. But it sucks to lose.”

Steel equalized the game before the first break. Joshua’s goal was the only goal in the second goal and lasted until Zuccarello scored his second goal on the power play, deflecting a pass from Kaprizov past Demko.

As a team with Stanley Cup ambitions after last season’s franchise record of 53 wins and 113 points, the Savages suffered defensive weaknesses during their disappointing start. Thursday’s game started the same way, but Minnesota recovered.

Fleury, the 37-year-old goalie who signed a two-year deal with Minnesota during the offseason, has allowed 14 goals on 75 shots and was drafted on his previous start. He was at his best from the second half, allowing one goal in the last 18 shots he faced.

The Wild, who went 31-7-2 at home last season, had conceded 20 goals in the first three games of their opening game.

“It’s good to see guys laugh a little, smile,” Fleury said. “We have such a good team and such good chemistry. Everyone was kind of tense, right? Not being ourselves. Nice to be relaxed and smiling and having fun playing. Working on it. It’s good. It’s good to see the laughter. We just have to keep building on that.”

SHORT RETURNS

Minnesota forward Jordan Greenway made his season debut after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, but he left the first half of the first with an upper-body injury and did not return.

Evason said Greenway will undergo tests but the forward will not play on Saturday. Evason said it wasn’t the same injury that required surgery.

Vancouver also lost defenseman Riley Stillman to an undisclosed injury. Boudreau had no update on Stillman after the game.
