David Pastrnak contract details: Bruins forward agrees to eight-year extension to stay in Boston

The Bruins are keeping their top offensive talent for the long term.

David Pastrnak has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Boston until 2031. He was originally slated to be a full free agent after the season before reaching an agreement to remain with the Bruins.

Pastrnak, 26, has been with the Bruins since the team made him a first-round pick in 2014. He made his NHL debut in the 2014-15 season and scored 10 goals for Boston.

Since then he has become one of the top scorers in the league. He led the NHL with 48 goals in the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season and has scored 42 in the 2022-23 season — the second-highest in the league behind only Conor McDavid.

Retaining Pastrnak was vital for the Bruins, who own and paid well for an aging core of Patrice Bergeron, 37, David Krejci, 36, and Brad Marchand, 34.

Here’s how much Pastrnak will earn over the life of his contract.
