Disney Dreamlight Valley: How To Collect Lots Of Softwood, Hardwood & Iron Ingots
Hardwood becomes easy-to-find wood.
Enter the center of Disney Dreamlight Valleyyou will be inundated with quests asking for three crafting ingredients — softwood, hardwoodand iron ingot. Sometimes they don’t ask for the exact materials, just crafted items that require multiple materials to create. Finding these materials can be tricky, so we’re sharing tips to make your life easier. There are never enough of all three, and there are easier ways to track them down. Stop running around in circles and collect materials easily.

Material hunting guide | Softwood, Hardwood, and Iron Ingots
Once you reach the Forest of Valor and the clearing of trust, you will be overwhelmed with quests to collect materials for Moiana, Wall-E and Kris. All three of these types of materials are valuable, and finding Harwood in particular can be tricky without the right tools.
- How to find softwood: Softwood is often found in the Forest of Valor and clearing of trust. It can be found by looking for sticks near trees.
Softwood is relatively common and most players report finding it x10 more softwood than any other material in these regions. Softwood can be found in many regions, including the starting areas, but is plentiful in the forest and clearing. It will respawn after approx 5~ minutes.
- How to find hardwood: Much rarer than Softwood, but there is an easier way to collect Hardwood. Complete quests for ann (Frozen Realm) in the valley to unlock the Shovel Upgrade.
- The shovel upgrade lets you dig tree stumps. Digging up stumps gives you access to new areas and makes finding hardwood much, much easier.
Without the Shovel upgrade, Hardwood is a rare version of Softwood and is gathered through foraging in the same way. Trying to find enough hardwood through foraging can be incredibly tedious – some players report finding almost no hardwood. If you’re particularly unlucky, I recommend getting the shovel upgrade as soon as possible. It will make your craft work so much easier to get done.
- How to Find Iron Ingots: Iron ingots are dropped by everyone mining node — these are black/grey rocks with gems appearing all over the valley. The best places to hunt for iron ingots are the Forest of Valor and the clearing of trust. Go to these areas and hack every mineral node.
To improve Iron Ingot results, bring a Level 10 Mining Companion and only mine nods in the forest / clearing. Gold will not spawn in these areas, so you’ll get more iron ingots rather than different mining materials. Move from one realm to another – the Mineral Nodes reset every 5~ minutes. If you farm for emeralds or gems, you’ll quickly gather a huge supply of iron. It’s so much easier to find than the rarest materials, but you’re going to need a fair amount of it.
And that includes growing some of the most commonly needed materials in the valley. Softwood is easy to find, even in the Plaza or Peaceful Meadow. Hardwood is hard to find, but gets easier with the right upgrades. Iron needs to be farmed in two specific locations to avoid getting better/other drops. Follow these steps and you’ll finally collect enough to complete even the biggest project.
