F1 British Grand Prix 2023 live updates, highlights and results as Verstappen starts on pole ahead of Norris and Piastri
Qualifying for the 2023 British Grand Prix delivered drama yesterday as multiple drivers claimed the top spots to the death in the wet-to-dry session.
At one point it looked like McLaren’s Lando Norris would have clinched pole position, but Max Verstappen was able to take the honors again at the very end, his fifth consecutive pole position.
As a result, the Dutchman is the favorite to win his sixth straight race here at Silverstone as he is already on course for a third Drivers’ World Championship title halfway through the season.
However, he is pursued by Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri. The Australian rookie finished P3 yesterday, his best qualifying result to date as the rookie continues to get stronger.
They are then followed by Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, while Mercedes home favorites George Russell and Lewis Hamilton start in P6 and P7 respectively. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez continued to fight yesterday and will therefore start the 2023 British Grand Prix in 15th place.
The Mexican driver had initially qualified in 16th place, but Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas was disqualified after the session for failing to provide an adequate fuel sample.
