thymesia is by no means an easy game. As a Soullike, learning enemy movement, enemy attacks, and ways to approach them requires a lot of commitment from the player.

Odur is the first official boss players will take on thymesia and is located at the end of the Sea of Trees zone. Odur is a challenging boss, especially for the first zone where players still need to get used to the game’s combat. Besides this, Odur has two phases that the player must go through in order to defeat him.

Odur Phase 1 moveset and counter

Odur’s first form can be quite difficult for an early boss. He’s fast and swift, and his combos can quickly put the player out of their misery if they’re not careful. Odur has several combos that he throws at the player:

Two hit strike in stitch

  • Attack: Most common combo players will see Odur use a two-hit swipe from his stick, followed by a quick spin into a stab. This will knock Corvus back and deal heavy damage. This attack doesn’t have a lot of momentum and can surprise players in their combo.
  • Counter: If the player is hit by the first hit, it is possible for him to dodge the second and stab. This will mostly come down to how to dodge the pace Odur is attacking with. However, the player can choose to parry their attacks instead. Alternatively, players can hold off until Odur uses that combo and then counter themselves.

Double kick swing

  • Attack: Odur will charge his leg and step outside twice. He then follows with a swipe from his stick and then a teleport backwards.
  • Counter: This movement is fairly signaled to players by his leg movements, so players should try to back away as much as possible when they see him raising.

teleport counter

  • Attack: Odur counters the player’s attack and teleports backwards, then quickly charges forward twice.
  • Counter: This step is made incredibly clear by the counter into the teleport. From there, players should know that Odur is about to punch forward and be prepared to dodge in response.

Charged kick counter

  • Attack: Odur bends down slightly and charges his leg up. He then steps forward twice and punches. After that, he will teleport away from Corvus.
  • Counter: This attack is pretty obvious as Odur swings his leg backwards. Players should understand this animation and prepare to move out of the way, paying attention to his follow-up attacks.

Strike Kick Counter

  • Attack: Odur charges forward by swinging his stick backwards, then punches forward and then spins with kicks.
  • Counter: This is one of Odur’s easier attacks and should be avoided if the player sees the windup.

card toss

  • Attack: This move causes Odur to teleport away and throw cards directly at the player. These can do some pretty serious damage if players aren’t careful. He throws single cards followed by a volley of them. He will then use a final card, resulting in a high damage attack that can potentially end Corvus.
  • Counter: The player should try to close as much distance between Corvus and Odur as possible. Approaching Odur prevents him from throwing cards and prevents him from getting to his last powerful card. Rushing towards Odur with your card tosses in good time is definitely the way to go here.

Odur Phase 2 moveset and counter

Once the player has used up Odur’s first health bar, he enters his second phase. Here his moves are deadlier and have more steps to trick the player.

teleport combo

  • Attack: Odur will teleport and laugh before turning invisible. While invisible, he charges at Corvus and unleashes a slow 3 hit combo followed by 2 quick hits.
  • Counter: Odur’s first 3-hit combo has similar timing to his original combo in Stage 1. Players should attempt to dodge once Odur reappears from his stealth. Players can choose to deflect the quick punches afterwards, or wait them out before hitting Odur back.

Two hit strike in stitch

  • Attack: Odur performs a two-hit swipe from his stick, followed by a brief spin into a stab. This will knock Corvus back and deal heavy damage. This turn is identical to the turn in phase 1.
  • Counter: If the player is hit by the first hit, it is possible for him to dodge the second and stab. This will mainly be due to the pace Odur attacks with dodging. Alternatively, players can hold off until Odur uses that combo and then counter themselves.

Teleport counter + hit

  • Attack: Odur counters the player’s attack and teleports backwards, then quickly charges forward twice. After a very short delay, he strikes a third time and then teleports back.
  • Counter: This step is made incredibly clear by the counter into the teleport. From there, players should keep their distance from this attack.

Charged kick counter

  • Attack: Odur bends down slightly and charges his leg up. He then steps forward twice and punches. After that, he will teleport away from Corvus. This turn is identical to the turn in phase 1.

This turn is identical to the turn in phase 1.

This turn is identical to the turn in phase 1.
  • Counter: The player should try to close as much distance between Corvus and Odur as possible. Approaching Odur prevents him from throwing cards and prevents him from getting to his last powerful card. Rushing towards Odur with your card tosses in good time is definitely the way to go here.

Odur’s critical attack

  • Attack: Odur will flash green for a moment before slicing open a large area in front of him. As with all critical attacks, not dodging this attack will deal massive damage to Corvus.
  • Counter: Either using a spring or a step jump will work to cancel his critical attack.

Odur’s ultimate attack

  • Attack: Odur will flash red and wind up, after he finishes winding up he will charge towards the player. When he grabs Corvus, he deals insane amounts of damage that will likely end the player’s run.
  • Counter: The only way the player can counter this move is to move as far away as possible.

Loadout Tips

  • Short dodge – This allows Corvus to dodge a second time in quick succession. This is a great talent for this fight as it allows players to dodge the follow up attacks and not get caught in Odur’s combos.
  • Short claw – Short Claw allows players to destroy their injured health faster instead of having to go all-in with Long Claw. Alongside this, Short Claw Lvl 2 grants healing when the player has a fully stacked Offense Buff. This is one of the few ways players can heal outside of healing within a boss fight.
  • plague wounds – Plague Wounds can help deal more sustained damage to Odur. It also allows players to move away and heal without Odur having to heal his wounds.

plague weapon

  • halberd – Halberd is ideally the best plague weapon to bring into this fight as there are many windows for its long draw. It does great damage and is also dropped by one of the enemies just before Odur.

potions

  • General Potion – This is the only potion available to players for this fight. It is recommended that players increase the number of potions they can hold rather than their healing ability, as Corvus’ health bar is not too large early in the game.

Gameplay Tips

Learn the timing

  • The most important thing players can do for this fight is to memorize the rhythm/timing in which Odur attacks. Many of Odur’s combos won’t completely stagger Corvus, so can be knocked out midway. Taking Short Dodge or upgrading Dodge will help with that.

Respect Odur’s room

  • Many of Odur’s attacks either come to an end or only last for a limited time. Players can try to respect Odur by spreading out his attacks before launching a combo of their own.

Use feathers

  • Feathers aren’t just useful for deflecting critical attacks. Using feathers as a form of chip damage allows players to retreat and heal while maintaining wound damage on Odur.
