With a variety of digging tools to choose from and lots of mushrooms to hop on, you’ll have to be careful not to rush through. If you make it to the bottom, you’ll meet Spore Knight. Despite being the first boss, she can surprise you if you are not prepared for her.

Who is Spurknight?

Just like the Order Of No Quarter, this time the enemy force is called the Hexcavators. Though Spore Knight appears to be digging alongside them, she is more focused on her personal goal of studying mushrooms. Of course, with all of the Shovel Knight’s digging and ecosystem disruption, Spore Knight has every reason to be angry with him. She may be small, but she packs a decent arsenal and can pack quite a punch that works in tandem with her arena setup.

How to defeat Spore Knight

The first thing to consider is the layout of Spore Knight’s arena. Although the design may change, certain elements will recur. The arena almost always has rows of small purple mushrooms for you to bounce on. These are usually harmless, but there is a chance she will spawn with spikes hanging backwards. When that happens, do your best not to get bumped into the mushrooms.

Spore Knight is a small character that makes her vulnerable to knockback when hit while moving. This is most workable when she’s hopping around. As she does so she will try to hit you for contact damage, but it’s pretty easy to hit her once she lands. If you act fast enough, you can land two to three hits. Another good time to strike is when she shows up just after teleporting, when she launches an attack and then stays in place for a few seconds.

Attacks of the Spur Knights

Although Spore Knight can injure you on contact, most of her attacks are ranged attacks. She has three that she will use at random. First, she takes off her mushroom cap and throws it a short distance in front of her like a boomerang. You can jump on the cap to clear it and then land a free hit. There is another variant of this attack that will cause the Mushroom Cap to bounce around – just do your best to avoid it.

Her other two attacks are more dangerous. The first to see her send a huge shockwave that travels across the stage to the floor. It’s fast and big, so be ready to react quickly as soon as you see the sparks. Then there is the pollen attack. Spore Knight teleports to one of the other sides of the room and leaps into the air, scattering pollen into the air. It’s slowly raining across the stage, becoming an additional hazard that you must avoid.
