How To Get The White Mask Of Varre in Elden Ring

Elden Ring follows the formulas of previous FromSoftware titles and is packed with items. From cosmetics to weapons to upgraded consumables, there’s no shortage of items in the game. A notable piece of armor in the game is the white mask of Varre. Varre is the mysterious NPC that players encounter right at the start of the game. From the start it is clear that Varre is neither friend nor foe and that he is something to be wary of. What is striking about Varre, however, is his white mask, which contains no expressions whatsoever. Here we will look at how to get the white mask of Varre in Elden Ring.

The White Mask of Varre is an exceptionally powerful piece of armor, especially for bleed builds. Players wielding a bleed weapon like Rivers of Blood or Bleed Uchigatana gain an additional 10% damage bonus for 20 seconds, which can be devastating. However, getting the White Mask can be challenging as it requires visiting Mohgwyn Palace, which is among the most difficult areas in Elden Ring.

How to get the white mask in Elden Ring

There are two ways to get Varre’s white mask in Elden Ring. One involves completing Varre’s quest line and transporting it to Mohgwyn Palace, while the other is simpler and requires you to progress through the game normally until players level up enough for Mohgwyn Palace. The first method is ideal for players who are underleveled and want Varre’s white mask as soon as possible.

Method 1:

The first method is to complete Varre’s quest line:

  • Players will first encounter Varre after exiting the Elden Ring tutorial area.
  • After completing Limgrave, players will meet Varre at the very beginning of Liurnia of the Lakes at a location called the Rose Church. Here Varre hands out three suppurating fingers and asks you to engage in PvP.
  • After completing the task, Varre will ask you to serve with Lord Mohgwyn and give you a cloth to dip in “Maiden’s Blood”. This can be done in the Church of Inhibition
  • Upon returning to Varre after this, players will be rewarded with an item called the Pureblood Knight’s Medal (among other things). This item can be used to be instantly teleported to Mohgwyn Palace.
  • To get the White Mask in Elden Ring, teleport to Mohgwyn Palace and roam around the bloody lake in the center until you’re ambushed by a Nameless White Mask. These keep spawning and can randomly drop the white mask. Keep eliminating them until you drop the White Mask.

This completes Method 1 on how to get the white mask in Elden Ring. This method is ideal for lower bleed level builds that want the white mask as early as possible.

Method 2:

The second method is the conventional one and those who are in no hurry to get the white mask in Elden Ring should go for it.

  • To get to Mohgwyn Palace, players must have completed Lyndell, Royal Capital and defeated Morgott, the Omen King.
  • Defeating Morgott opens the way to the Mountaintop of the Giants. Once at the top of the mountain, players must make their way to Rold’s Grant Lift to access the Sacred Snowfield. In order to do this, players must have both halves of the Haligtree Medallion (obtained by completing Latanna’s quest line).
  • Once on the snow field, players must go to the ruins of Yelough Anix. It’s almost impossible to see the sacred snow field, but the route to the ruins is north of the starting area. If you go straight you will get to the ruins.
  • Explore the ruins until you come across a portal guarded by an Albinauric.
  • The portal teleports players to Mohgwyn Palace. Once there, a lot like method 1, go to the Bloody Lake until you are ambushed by a nameless White Mask. Keep killing them until one drops the white mask.

These are the only two methods to get the white mask in Elden Ring. We wish you the best of luck in your quest for this item as Mohgwyn Palace is a dark and dangerous place.
