How to Organize Your Text Messages in the Samsung Messages App

Going through dozens of text messages every day can be quite time consuming. It would be much easier if you could sort them by categories or labels.

If you’re using a Samsung Galaxy device, it’s easy to organize your texts using conversation categories. Let’s see how to set up and use the feature.

What are conversation categories in Samsung Messages?

Tired of scrolling through your inbox to find specific text? Or maybe you’re looking for a way to categorize your conversations so they’re easier to find? Anyway, we have the answer – conversation categories.

Samsung Messages allows you to set up custom categories that can be used to sort or filter conversations by topic, keywords, or any other way that makes sense to you.

Although this feature is not enabled by default, you can enable it at any time by following the steps outlined in the following sections. The feature not only gives you more control over your messages, but also makes it easier to find specific text when you need it.

However, the app doesn’t automatically filter conversations into message categories, so you’ll have to add each conversation manually.

Create conversation categories based on keywords or settings

Conversation categories make it easy to find and organize your messages. For example, you can create a conversation category based on important keywords like “transactions” or “shopping” and add relevant conversations to it for easy access. That’s how it’s done:

  1. Launch the Samsung Messages app and tap Three dots icon On the right side. Select from the drop down menu settings.
  2. Next, turn on the slider for conversation categories.
  3. To create a category, tap Conversation Categories > Add Categoryand tap Finished. Go back to the app home screen to see the newly added tab/label.
  4. To rename a category, tap conversation categories. Choose the category you want and select Rename in the bottom menu.
  5. You can now add categories right from the home screen by tapping + next to a previously added category. Just enter a name for your new category and tap Finished.

Add or remove conversations

If you want to add or remove a conversation from a category, do the following:

  1. In the Samsung Messages app, tap the category name.
  2. Tap on Add conversations. You’ll see a list of all your current conversations. Select the ones you want to add.
  3. Beat Finished to save your changes.
  4. To remove a conversation from a category, go to settings and tap a category.
  5. You can see a list of conversations you previously added. Tap the red minus icon next to each conversation to remove it.

Reorder conversations by priority

When organizing your messages, it can be helpful to change the order of the texts (according to their priority) instead of sticking to the default chronological order. How to set it up:

  1. In the Samsung Messages app, tap Three dots icon and select Edit categories from the drop down options.
  2. Turn on the slider for conversation categories. Beat To edit in the upper right corner.
  3. To rearrange the category positions, tap the two-arrow icon (on the right) and drag it to the desired position. When you’re done, return to the news screen to see the rearranged tabs and categories.

Conversation categories make it much easier to find your text messages and chats. You can organize your email in a similar way.

Pin your most important messages

If you’re looking for a way to quickly sort through conversations, you can always pin them to the top or mark your favorite messages for easy reference.

Samsung Messages lets you pin conversations like Google Messages and move them to the top of your list. To do this, just tap and hold on a conversation thread. Choose More (the three-dot icon) in the bottom menu and tap Pin on top.

How to turn off conversation categories

You can turn off conversation categories by turning off the feature in the Samsung Messages app. This will only hide the news categories on the home screen. To do this, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Tap the Three dots icon on the home screen of the Samsung Messages app.
  2. Choose settings.
  3. Turn off the slider for conversation categories.

If you want to permanently delete the conversation categories, please do the following:

  1. On your device, open the Samsung Messages app home screen and tap Three point menu.
  2. Select from the drop down menu settings.
  3. Tap the Conversation Categories > Edit.
  4. Select and hold the category name you want to delete.
  5. Once the blue tick appears, tap Delete everything in the bottom menu to completely remove the category.

View your messages at a glance

Ever felt like you have so many texts that you can’t find the one you want? After all, letting your messages pile up over time can be tedious. You tend to miss important information – it’s difficult to go back and look at something you may have skipped in the past.

With Samsung Messages you can choose how you want to see your messages, either in chronological order or sorted by category. We hope this guide helps you sort your conversations the way you want and access them quickly for a seamless experience.
