How to Remove Apple TV Shows and Movies From Your Mac

Apple TV’s offline viewing capability is great, but it comes at the expense of your Mac’s storage space. So delete the shows and movies you have already watched.

The Apple TV app is one of the best applications for watching movies and TV shows on your Mac. However, saving TV shows and movies can take up a lot of storage space on your Mac.

Luckily, you can easily uninstall the movies and TV shows you’ve been watching and save a ton of disk space on your Mac.

What is the Apple TV app?

Every Mac comes with the Apple TV app, which was originally part of iTunes but became a separate application in macOS Catalina.

The app lets you watch TV shows and movies that you can rent or buy from Apple. You can also watch Apple Originals with an Apple TV+ subscription and connect other streaming services like AMC+ to the app to watch content directly.

Why Should You Remove Apple TV Movies and Shows?

There are several reasons to have some free space on your Mac. Free up disk space is essential as you never know when you will need to install an important program or download an important document.

Once you’ve finished watching the movie or TV show, there’s no reason to store it locally on your hard drive other than if you want to watch it offline. You can still stream movies and TV shows if you want to watch them again.

How to remove Apple TV shows and movies

There are two ways to remove Apple TV shows and movies from your Mac. You can remove them from the Apple TV app or the Storage tab in About This Mac. Follow these instructions to remove a movie or TV show in the app itself:

  1. Open the Apple TV app and select one of the two movies or tv shows under the library sidebar.
  2. press the three points in the lower-right corner of the TV show or movie.
  3. Choose Remove Download.

The show or movie is uninstalled from your Mac. A quicker solution would be to remove the shows or movies through About This Mac. To do this you need to do the following:

  1. Click on that Apple logo in the menu bar and select About this Mac from the drop-down list.
  2. Go to storage tab and then click Administer.
  3. Now click TV from the left pane and select the TV show or movie you want to remove.
  4. Click on Extinguish in the lower-right corner and select when prompted Extinguish again.

Unlike the Apple TV app, you can hold down the Command key and click multiple shows and movies to save time deleting. And if you don’t want to remove some of your favorite movies from your Mac, you can save disk space by removing the GarageBand Sound Library.

Enjoy more free storage space on your Mac

Uninstalling Apple TV shows and movies is a great way to free up storage space on your Mac. Both methods effectively remove the content you’ve already been watching, but if you want to save time, do so through your Mac’s storage settings.

And if deleting your Apple TV content isn’t enough to save enough storage space, you might also want to check if other applications or files are exhausting your Mac’s storage drive.
