How to Start a Snapchat Streak and Keep It Alive

  • Your Snapchat Streak (or Snapstreak) tracks how many days in a row you and a friend have snapped to each other.
  • Maintaining a Snapchat streak earns you additional points towards your Snapchat score.
  • Chat messages and Snaps sent to group chats do not count towards a Snapchat streak.

One of the ways Snapchat encourages users to send snaps every day is through the Snapchat Streak, also known as Snapstreak. This feature rewards you for sending Snaps to your friends every day.

Here’s how the Snapchat streak feature works, how to review your streaks, and avoid breaking a streak and losing all your progress.

How to start a snapchat streak

Your snap streaks count how many days in a row you sent someone a snap and they sent a snap back. You must both send and receive at least one Snap within 24 hours for it to count.

You need to keep your streak alive for at least three days before you notice anything happening. But once you’ve gone three days A flame emoji (🔥) will appear next to your friend’s name.along with a number indicating how many days you’ve streaked together (your “streak score”).

When you reach 100 days, the 100 emoji (💯) appears with the flame. And if you keep the Snapstreaks going for an incredibly long time — Snapchat didn’t say exactly how long — you might see a mountain emoji (⛰️) to.

You can always find your current streak score next to your friend’s name in the chat list. If it’s gone, that means one of you broke the streak.

What’s the point of Snapchat streaks?

Starting and maintaining streaks can also earn you additional points towards your Snap Score. The emoji, the streak score, and the increase in your snap score are the only real benefits you get from maintaining a snap streak.

But since the app doesn’t have a follower count, streaks and boosting your Snap score are the best ways to show you’re a true Snapchat power user.

Here’s how to keep your Snapchat streak alive

At first glance, the Snapstreak rules might sound pretty simple. But there are some limitations that you should be aware of.

First you need to send an image or video, not a chat message. Merely sending a chat message will not keep your streak alive.

It also has to be a new snap (not from Memories) and you can’t take it with the Spectacles eyewear camera.

Finally, to keep your streak going, you need to send your snap directly to your friend. If you send it to a group chat, it doesn’t count towards anyone’s streak. However, it’s okay if you send a snap to multiple people outside of a group chat.

When an hourglass emoji (⏳) appears next to your friend’s name, it means you’re running out of time to keep your streak active. If you haven’t sent a snap that day, you must do so within an hour or you’ll lose the snap streak.
