House of the Dragon is in full swing after four episodes. We’ve had a few time jumps already, along with betrayals, fights, deaths, births, the odd bit of nudity and the teasing of incest. The spirit of Game of Thrones lives on it seems.

If you haven’t seen the first four episodes, be warned, some spoilers follow…

Set 200 years before the events depicted in Game of Thrones, this Targaryen family drama is all about the succession to the throne of King Viserys (Paddy Considine), and it’s fair to say the various relatives and all the vultures are hot comes from factions that want to benefit from who finally sits on the Iron Throne.

The heir to the throne of King Viserys was named as his daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). This is controversial for several reasons. First of all, there has never been a queen. The king also has another, younger son, by his daughter’s former best friend and new wife. Even the outrageous crook of one of the king’s brothers, Daemon (Matt Smith), is anything but happy about it.

The great houses (Lennisters are assholes here already) either want their kin to be married off to Rhaenyra or ousted as an heir. For her part, she does not want to marry any of them. She is kidnapped by her Knight of the Realm, guardian and protector, but also has a thing for her uncle. Oh those Targaryens! He’s just misleading her to ruin her reputation, smart idiot.

At the end of Episode 4, Rhaenyra struck out herself, convincing her father to get rid of the Hand of the King, his wife’s father. So on to Episode 5. Read on to learn how to watch House of the Dragon Episode 5 on the best TV you have in the house.
