How to Watch Season 3 of Derry Girls
Derry girls is a coming-of-age comedy series that follows a group of Northern Irish teenage girls and their families amidst the political and social struggles of the 1990s (aka The Troubles). Despite the strong historical context Derry girls is a light-hearted and relatable show. Regardless of our roots, we were all teenagers at some point.
Hat Trick and Channel 4’s joint production will come to an end with this final season, and while it seems short-lived, that was the plan all along – as stated by Derry girls writer and creator Lisa McGee. She managed to ingeniously blend satire with horrifying historical events, handling them with humor while emphasizing the complexity of the matter by showing archive footage broadcast on the McCool family television.
The series stars Saoirse Monica Jackson as Erin Quinn, Nicola Coughlan as Clare Devlin, Louise Harland as Orla McCool, Jamie Lee O’Donnell as Michelle Mallon and Dylan Llewellyn as James Maguire. The five friends attend a Catholic high school in Northern Ireland as they navigate the whirlwind of emotions inherent in youth and the external chaos brought about by war. As the five teenagers find out life, they can’t help but clash with Sister Michael’s authority, played by Siobhan McSweeney.
The season two finale presents the ending of The Troubles, paving the way for a new, more peaceful era in which the protagonists may be able to open up their youthful horizons – at least that’s what’s expected Derry girls Season 3. Here’s how, when, and where to watch them.
