Tottenham sale latest

Unlike Manchester United, Tottenham is not officially up for sale as the current owners are not actively pursuing any financial restructuring.

But everything comes at a price, and Sky Sports recently reported that a “sky-high offer” could see Tottenham secure a new owner.

That offer would apparently have to be significantly more than the $3bn (£2.5bn) paid for Chelsea.

While Tottenham are seen as more valuable than the Blues given their new stadium that opened in 2019, Forbes has claimed Spurs’ selling price has fallen to around $3.75bn from an earlier peak of $4.5bn due to lower demand .USD has declined.

With popular European sides like Manchester United, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Everton attracting the interest of potential owners, this has temporarily diverted attention (and potential bidders) away from other clubs like Tottenham.

Who buys Tottenham?

With Spurs’ costs falling, one party in particular has been linked with a potential bid.

The Financial Times points out that Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi, the chairman of MSP Sports Capital, made an offer sometime in March.

As a minority shareholder of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, he is reportedly willing to bid $3.75 billion for Tottenham.

However, no formal offer has yet been made and Spurs appear to have had no official contact or talks with Najafi’s group.

MSP is no stranger to sports team ownership and currently has ties to football clubs FC Augsburg (Germany), AD Alcorcon (Spain), GD Estoril (Portugal) and SK Beveren (Belgium).

Who owns Tottenham?

The ENIC Group is the current owner of Tottenham and has a stake of just over 85 per cent.

The British investment company is primarily owned by Joseph Lewis, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and his family also owning a minority stake.

ENIC first bought into Tottenham in 1991 and later acquired a majority stake in 2001.

After decades at the helm, suggestions for a possible sale have increased over the past year. Levy reportedly met with Qatar Sports Investments chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi in early 2023 when Lewis was looking to sell his entire stake in the club.

Neither Tottenham nor ENIC have officially confirmed their intention to sell, but where there’s smoke there’s often fire.
