Latest Liverpool injury news as four players to miss Real Madrid and Darwin Núñez update to be given
Liverpool are preparing for Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 tie against Real Madrid, which will be missing four players Jurgen Klopp’s men.
The game at Anfield – the first leg, with the second game against the La Liga side scheduled for Wednesday 15 March – comes at a time when Liverpool have found some form.
After beating Everton and Newcastle United in six days to change their fortunes in the Premier League and hope for a top-four race, things feel a little different for Klopp and his players.

However, this will be a very different test. Real Madrid may lag behind Barcelona in the Spanish top flight, but this is their competition – the one in which they always seem to somehow find a way to win.
Here at Liverpool.com we try to keep you up to date with the latest injury news after every single game. This is how things unfold ahead of Tuesday night when Real Madrid will be in town.
Calvin Ramsay
The young Scotland full-back has endured a tough season when it comes to things spiraling out of control and his recent setback means he will miss the rest of the season.
He almost certainly wouldn’t have played a minute against Real Madrid but could certainly have been useful for the rest of the season – but he won’t be back in action until the summer following his surgery.
Thiago Alcantara
The Spanish midfielder will be out for a while with a hip injury and won’t play against Real Madrid. So it’s a good job that Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have started to look more like themselves and Stefan Bajčetić impressed.
However, Thiago will be a big mistake in the middle of the pitch. His experience in games like this could have been crucial.
Ibrahima Konate
Konaté is arguably Liverpool’s best performer against Real Madrid in Paris in the last game of last season and will not be a huge failure with either Joe Gomez or him Joël Matip at his best.
Konaté is not far from a return and on his return will join the side right alongside Virgil van Dijk, with Liverpool’s current top two centre-backs clear.
Luis Diaz
Back running in the AXA training center, Díaz could be back for the second leg against Real Madrid next month but is still a little way off a return.
With Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino now back, Liverpool may have options up front but having the Colombian striker back would be a great addition to the squad – he was, after all, the best Reds player before his first setback.
Darwin Nunez
The Uruguayan striker left the pitch with a shoulder injury against Newcastle United and Liverpool are sweating over the extent of the problem Klopp confirms Núñez was in ‘pain’ after the game.
Klopp is set to give a full update in his press conference at 1pm UK time on Monday when the Reds boss previews the game with Real Madrid alongside one of his players.
