GEORGETOWN, Kentucky — Lexington Sporting Club defeated South Georgia Tormenta FC in a 2-1 final at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Kentucky, earning their first win in club history on Saturday.

The win also brought Lexington Sporting Club’s first goal for Nico Brown and the first professional goal for Owen Green.

“We worked really hard and played well together,” said Brown. “It was a great result for us and we’re working on it, it’s not the end result yet. It’s good to finally get three points.”

The home side entered the game a week after the 0-0 draw with Forward Madison FC in the club’s opening game, having clinched their first point in club history.

In glorious sunshine in Georgetown, 2,621 fans turned out for the home side, who quickly scored the night’s first goal in the 15th minute, courtesy of Brown.

Brown was assisted by Ates Diouf in scoring what marked the second goal in the first 15 minutes for league-leading Lexington.

With Tormenta FC unable to equalize, Lexington SC went 1-0 at half-time, giving the club their first half lead.

With both teams substituted at half-time, Tormenta FC would quickly gain the upper hand at half-time and level the game with a Jackson Khoury penalty.

The home side refused to back down, however, and continued to fight for chances until the 72nd minute when the effort paid off when Green, assisted by Phila Dlamini, carried one past the Tormenta defense to regain the lead.

Green’s goal would prove to be the decisive goal and the officials blew the whistle full time soon after, sending the home fans into a frenzy.

“I’ve talked so much about this group of men, these players, how badly they want it, how badly they want to work, how willing they are to go the extra mile for it,” head coach Sam Stockley said. “They’re all shopped, they’re a fantastic group and hopefully you can see it on the field now. How much it means to us and how much it means to you as a community to try to be successful.”

South Georgia Tormenta controlled possession in the game, holding the ball 55.1% of the time, but it was Lexington SC who finished with a 1.74 to 1.40 lead in expected goals.

Next up is Lexington SC’s third straight home game against Greenville Triumph SC at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Kentucky on Saturday, April 22nd.
