Asensio update

It has been claimed that no ‘final decision’ has been made on Marco Asensio’s future at Real Madrid.

The Spain midfielder is nearing the end of his current contract with Los Blancos and has hardly been limited to substitute appearances for the La Liga side this season.

Carlo Ancelotti remained coy on the subject when asked about the player’s next move and it seems that both parties are no closer to a solution.

Fabrizio Romano wrote in his book Caught Offside that Asensio’s agent had “already spoken to English clubs last summer” and that it was up to the 27-year-old to “decide” on a new deal or head for the exit door.

Arteta on Saka contract

Mikel Arteta is confident that Bukyo Saka will devote his future to Arsenal and sign a new contract with the club.

Recent reports suggest the England international has reached a verbal agreement to extend his stay with the Londoners until 2028, with his current contract expiring next summer.

Liverpool were described in August as “closely monitoring the situation” of the 21-year-old amid uncertainty over new terms being agreed, but Arteta hopes Saka will stick with it.

At a press conference yesterday afternoon, the Arsenal boss said:

I’ll be happy because he’s a very, very good player, one of the best young players in the world. He’s at his house, you know. Arsenal is his home and he sure is happy. And we’re also happy if he stays and signs a new contract. Yes, we always have some jokes – me, him and [William] Saliba. But it’s up to him. But he will stay for sure. He loves the club.”

Jamie Carragher sends Kylian Mbappe blunt transfer message after PSG Champions League elimination

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has advised Kylian Mbappe to leave Paris Saint-Germain after they were knocked out of the Champions League knockout round again.

PSG boss Christophe Galtier, who is under intense pressure from sections of the club’s fanbase to keep his job, failed to lead his side to the quarter-finals of the competition as they were defeated 2-0 at Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. Second-half goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry contributed to Kingsley Coman’s first-leg strike at the Parc des Princes three weeks ago to ensure the Parisians’ quest for the first European Cup continues for at least another season .

Despite being without Neymar Jr, who will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury, Mbappe struggled to lead the front line as Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt limited PSG to just four shots on target over the 90 minutes.

For the French champions, apart from his finals and semi-final appearances in 2020 and 2021, this means that he has been knocked out in the first knockout round of the Champions League in five of the last seven seasons, with his most recent absence being the joy of Carragher entered .

Liverpool ‘growing confidence’ in Bellingham deal

Liverpool are said to be increasingly optimistic about finalizing a deal to sign Jude Bellingham.

The Reds are huge admirers of the Borussia Dortmund midfielder but will face competition from most of Europe’s big clubs in the race to sign the teenager this summer.

A recent report from the Daily Mail suggests Liverpool are “growing in confidence” in a deal, citing playing in next season’s Champions League as a “key factor” in Bellingham’s next goal.

Jurgen Klopp’s side boosted their hopes of a top-four finish thanks to a stunning 7-0 win over Manchester United that put the Reds close to European places.

Back in action soon

Liverpool lived at their peak last Sunday after beating Man United 7-0 to sit three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

The Reds will be back in action on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to the south coast to take on Bournemouth, who are in the middle of a relegation battle.

A win for Liverpool puts them just a single point off fourth place.
