Major sporting event to be shown live in UK for free
LIV GOLF will be shown live in the UK for free to give fans a big boost.
Players usually have to pay through the nose for various subscriptions in order to watch their favorite sports.
But golf fans will get their money’s worth this year.
That’s because LIV Golf is reportedly free-streaming in the UK.
i News claims the controversial competitor only got one deal in the US for the sale of their TV rights.
The Saudi-backed tour divided golfers as organizers secured big names like PGA’s Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.
But it has struggled to get broadcast deals, I’ve argued that TV companies have been deterred by scheduling and political issues.
That means fans in the UK and around the world, excluding the US, can watch the first event of the new season for free when it kicks off in Mexico next Thursday.
The event will be available on the LIV Golf Plus app and will also be streamed on LIVGolfPlus.com.
Will Staeger, LIV Golf Chief Media Officer, said: “The launch of the LIV Golf Plus streaming app ensures fans around the world have direct access to live and on-demand coverage of our league’s groundbreaking launch .

“In line with the content distribution strategy of other major sports leagues, the LIV Golf Plus streaming app allows greater access to our content from more places to more people, ranging from the traditional golf consumer to the occasional sports and entertainment viewer discovering golf for the first time Time.
“We are thrilled to bring our innovative coverage of the game’s biggest stars, including Cam Smith, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson, to the sport’s global fan base and look forward to expanding our content offering on LIV Golf Plus in to expand in the coming seasons to deepen the connections between spectators and our athletes in all corners of the world.”
Meanwhile, Conrad Wiacek, head of sports analysis at GlobalData, told i: “If you look at WSL [Women’s Super League]look at their strategy, part of it was free to air and that built an audience.
“Sky and the BBC are now showing WSL coverage because they are trying to reach the widest possible audience. The 100 is another example of free-to-air and pay-TV coverage.
“So you’re building that audience, you’re reaching as many people as possible through free-to-air, but you also potentially have a little bit of money coming in from the pay-TV side.
“My gut feeling is that LIV Golf went into the market, they signed all these big names and they went ‘well of course people will pay for that’ and the argument against it from a broadcaster, especially on Sky is ‘Okay, who’s your audience?’.
“LIV will say ‘Well, we don’t have one yet.’ and Sky will say, “Well, come back to us when you do it,” because Sky will essentially use that audience to sell advertising.
“There’s an entire economy behind media rights that I think LIV may have misjudged.”
