Nick Kyrgios picks his winner for the US Open

Nick Kyrgios is one of the favorites to win the US Open later this month, but the Australian didn’t opt to win the final Grand Slam of the year.

While Novak Djokovic is the bookmakers’ choice to win ahead of world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev at Flushing Meadows, Kyrgios believes there will be a first winner at the Major – which starts on August 29.

Via his Instagram Stories, Kyrgios picked Spanish teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz to win his first Grand Slam at the US Open.

The 19-year-old has already achieved a career-high ranking of 4th after an exceptional start to his tennis journey at such a young age.

Alcaraz has already won five career titles – including four in 2022 – with triumphs at two Masters 1000 events in Miami and Madrid.

The Spaniard has not yet been able to maintain his winning form in tennis with five sets at Grand Slam level, but has still achieved good results in the majors and reached the quarterfinals at the US Open (2021) and the French Open (2022).

Alcaraz – fourth in the line of bets to win the US Open – hopes to have built the fitness base to challenge in the fortnight at a Grand Slam with his best tennis, capable of beating any player in the world.

Kyrgios himself is fifth favorite to his first Major in New York after the best season of his career in which the enigmatic Aussie reached the final at Wimbledon, won a title in Washington and reached semi-finals in Halle, Stuttgart and Houston.

Fifth-seeded Djokovic could yet be a withdrawal for the US Open, while Alexander Zverev recently retired through injury.
