Sporting A Black Eye For Jesus
I recently took a trip back to my hometown to visit my family. This trip takes place every 5 to 6 weeks as I also get my hair cut and colored by my beautiful daughter-in-law. I always look forward to these trips and I enjoy spending time with my parents, children, grandchildren, siblings and the rest of my extended family.
My most recent trip was probably the most chilled and chilled trip I’ve ever had. This time I didn’t have an agenda with people to visit or places to visit. In fact, I don’t think I put on any makeup at all the entire time I was there. 😳
I laughed and told Joe he didn’t wear makeup the whole trip. The next day I had to take photos etc. so I went to do my makeup. That’s when I noticed that the corner of my right eye looked dark. Having not worn mascara in several days, I knew it wasn’t it, but I had no idea why it looked that way. I wiped it off, thinking I must not have slept well while I was away.
The next morning it was clear that I had a small black eye. I showed my eye to Joe and he asked me who I had an argument with. You talk about being confused; I racked my brains to think of something I could have done to get a black eye.
Then it got me! My cross hit me. I can’t remember exactly what I did, but I do remember my lower back tilting up and hitting my eye area. I remember thinking at the time, ‘phew, I’m glad it didn’t hit me in the eye; that could have been dangerous.”
When I found out what had happened, I laughed and said: NOT TODAY, SATAN!
I love wearing my crosses and I have several that I wear all the time. Some are small, some are ornate and some are large. The one I was wearing at the time was large and on a long chain, so it could flip up and catch my eye. But I don’t wear the crosses as a fashion statement; I wear them to show others that I love the Lord.
Matthew 22:37
37 Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
My love for the Lord comes in many different forms, but wearing a cross is one way I show my love to others. The Lord also loves us in many ways. He shows grace, forgiveness and mercy. But his greatest display of love also included a cross.
Romans 5:8
8th But God shows his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
1 John 4:19
19 We love because he first loved us.
My black eye is a small price to pay to show my love and pales in comparison to the price Jesus paid. But every time I look at my necklace I am reminded that showing your love for the Lord can leave a mark and I am willing to have it.
Glory goes to God!
Have a blessed day!
