Why did Rangers withdraw from the Sydney Super Cup?

Rangers fans have never been happy with plans for the club to eventually withdraw from the tournament, citing the organizers’ unwillingness to honor certain unspecified commitments.

Everton were later chosen to replace Rangers and jumped at the opportunity to visit Australia.

“We are very much looking forward to traveling to Australia later this year. The Winter World Cup gave us the opportunity to visit a fantastic country and play against really strong opponents,” said manager Frank Lampard.

“We also have a lot of passionate Evertonians in Australia and we can’t wait to catch up with them.

“Apart from the players who are playing at the World Cup, we will take our largest possible squad with us. This promises to be a very rewarding tour on all levels and we are very excited to be making this journey.”
