The Latest on WIIM’s Status

In case you were kind of living under a rock and missed the news that Vox decided they no longer wanted to keep WIIM around, here’s where it’s at:

Well, Vox has decided that they no longer want to keep WIIM.

The original plan was to end our contracts on February 28th. I wrote a goodbye about my intention to retire from directing things when that happens and we all had a great bit of catharsis and then the blog went on.

Since then, SBN Hockey’s location managers have been approached with options to sell the network to someone else and essentially merge with this new location, or obtain the necessary pieces to become independent. We have not been given enough information to confidently sign any of our sites in exchange for contracts which had not been shown to us previously and it has been decided that our contracts will be extended until the end of March, during which time the site managers will receive the data transfer, required to transition our sites to an independent option.

That’s the way things are now. There are a number of managers working to find out what this resolution means, but I still don’t know the full extent of what will happen. My current understanding is that WIIM will go completely dark on April 1st and sometime before that I will have all the data that Vox gave me.

What I would like is someone willing to continue with an independent iteration of this site and take things further. I don’t know if that will happen. I’ll be the one managing the site, but I haven’t backed down from my position that once the deal is done, my days as a blog manager will be over too.

My intention is to keep this site running until the end of March. That could mean things are a little different than they are now. I don’t know if we will have the same level of coverage. I plan to continue having quick hits posts, game threads, and something similar to recaps. Essentially each day will be a series of open threads.

I want to keep the community going here so that you can discuss with each other in a place where you feel comfortable. When it comes down to coordinating plans to keep in touch elsewhere, the unofficial Discord run by members of our community is a good place and I will remain ready to help people who are willing to e- Share email addresses privately.

I’ll know more as I know more, but for now at least we have some temporary respite.
