USA vs Brazil women’s soccer live score, updates, highlights as Rose Lavelle starts for USWNT in SheBelieves Cup

The United States women hope to defend their FIFA World No. 1 ranking as they seek their fifth straight SheBelieves Cup title in the tournament final against Brazil in Frisco, Texas.

The USWNT would secure the top spot simply by securing a draw against No. 9 Brazil, but victory will be the goal as Vlatko Andonovski leads this team ever closer to the 2023 Women’s World Cup this summer.

American rising star Mallory Swanson is this year’s top scorer in the tournament with three goals and all-US draft in the first two games. The United States, too, have not conceded in either of their first two games, dominating Canada in the opener before beating an organized but wasteful Japan.

Brazil defeated Japan 1-0 in the opening match of the round robin tournament, but were beaten 2-0 by Canada last time out after scoring two goals in the second half.

The Sporting News will be following the USA v Brazil game live with updated results, commentary and highlights as they take place.

58 minutes to kick: The lineups are in place and there are no surprises for the United States. Rose Lavelle is back from injury and will start in midfield after missing the first two games of the SheBelieves Cup. Crystal Dunn resumes her place at left-back while Emily Fox shifts to the right to adjust, just as she did against Canada. Becky Sauerbrunn takes over from Alana Cook in central defense after she started the first two games.

For Brazil, Marta remains a banking option. She’s likely to come on with 20 or 30 minutes to go, as she did in the first two games of this competition, but coming back from a cruciate ligament rupture at the age of 37, her country is playing it safe.

The US will give Ireland a great look at a team of similar caliber and structure to Canada, while Ireland give the USWNT a half scout of European group stage opponents Portugal.

The USWNT last played Ireland in 2019, winning 3-0 in a Rose Bowl friendly with goals from Carli Lloyd, Lindsey Horan and Tobin Heath.
