“We knew we had to get off to a good start today,” said coach Nate Leaman after the 7-0 win. “Our schedule was different today and it was important for us to adapt quickly. I’m happy with how the team started the first period and kept it going.”

Team USA practically went through the group game. In the first three competitions, it prevailed 19:2 against Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Sweden will be by far the toughest test for the Americans so far.

The Swedes also roll into Sunday with a win against Austria. They played on Friday and won 6-0. Sweden previously defeated Switzerland 3-2.

The winner of this game will most likely finish No. 1 in Group B and go into the knockout stages well prepared.

In each game we will be highlighting a player from Team USA to follow.

For the duel against Sweden we focus on Carter Mazur. The University of Denver product has scored two goals in a row. His four goals in the tournament rank behind only Canadian Mason McTavish, and his six points tie for fourth among all skaters.

The Red Wings’ 2021 third-round pick was fantastic playing with Thomas Bordeleau and Landon Slaggert up front. If Team USA wants to win against Sweden, they need this line-up to be at their best.
