The NFL confirmed Thursday the game would go ahead as scheduled, and Bucs quarterback Tom Brady told reporters last week that he hopes the game could serve as a rallying point.
“I’ve always felt that sport has brought people together over a long period of time,” Brady said. “Observing different adversities – whether it was 9/11, whether it was [Hurricane] Katrina – Sport has an amazing way of healing wounds and bringing people together and bringing communities together, something to celebrate, a common interest, a common good.”
On the pitch, tonight could be the last time fans see Brady vs Patrick Mahomes. Every time the duo meets, the conversation revolves around the proverbial passing of the torch between the two men. With Brady not quite ready to step down from his role as the biggest name in the NFL, Mahomes is hoping to emulate the 45-year-old’s longevity while maintaining the high standards that make the two quarterbacks the best the league has ever seen has seen.
“It’s something special to see what he’s done in this league, how he can switch positions [with] Longevity and great success,” Mahomes said. “That’s the crazy part. I mean, if you look at his career, there’s never really been a bad year. He was always great and had a great season and found ways to get even better. He’s done things off the field that didn’t affect him on the field but nonetheless made his legacy even greater.
