What’s going on with CNN’s Don Lemon? Here’s the latest

Don Lemon is walking on thin ice at CNN. He’s welcome back for now, but he only needs one more punch to finally get fired – and he knows it.

Lemon met with network executives earlier this week and was told they would no longer put up with his antics and that this was his final warning, sources with direct knowledge of the situation told TMZ.

Lemon was told that the next time he insults his cohosts or creates a toxic environment (on- or off-air), it would be his last time with the network.

Lemon was removed from CNN’s morning show last Thursday after making comments on the show about presidential candidate Nikki Haley when he said the 51-year-old Republican was not “in her prime.”

“If you Google ‘when is a woman in her prime,’ there will be 20’s, 30’s and 40’s,” said Lemon, 56. “Don’t shoot the messenger. I’m just saying what the facts are. Google it!”

Lemon elaborated that Haley should be careful when she says that politicians should be in their prime when they serve “because according to Google or whatever, they wouldn’t be in their prime.”

Lemon was quick to address the situation on Twitter, saying he regrets his comments but doesn’t apologize to Haley.

“The reference I made this morning to a woman’s ‘best time’ was clumsy and irrelevant, as colleagues and family have pointed out, and I regret it. A woman’s age does not define her personally or professionally. I have countless Women my life who prove that every day,” he said.

In an email to CNN staffers Monday night, Chris Licht, the network’s CEO, said Lemon would undergo “formal training,” the Los Angeles Times reported. Licht said it was important to him that the network “balance accountability with fostering a culture where people own their mistakes, learn from them and grow from them”.

Lemon returned to the anchor chair on Wednesday morning. He didn’t directly apologize to Haley, but he addressed the controversy on Twitter before his return.

“I appreciate the opportunity to be back on @CNNThisMorning today. To my network, my colleagues and our incredible audience – I’m sorry. I’ve heard you, I’m learning from you and I’m striving to do better,” he said.

Former South Carolina governor Haley is taking it easy β€” and selling merchandise that makes fun of Lemon.

In a social media post, Haley wrote, “For all of you who’ve dealt with the haters who say we’re past our prime, this is for you.”

The post included a link to contribute to their campaign and order a Koozie that said, “Past my prime?” and “Hold my beer.”
