The qualifying rounds are complete and we have the field of 32 teams for the 2022/23 Champions League group stage. Now the wait for the group stage kick-off begins shortly after the draw.
The group stage draw will take place on Thursday, 25.8 and the four-team groups and subsequent matchups are determined. After that, fans only have to wait a few weeks for the group stage to start Tue-Wed, 6th-7th Sept.
September has always been the traditional start date for Champions League group stage matches and it will be the same this time. What’s different this season is how condensed the rest of the calendar will be with the Worlds just around the corner.

When does the Champions League start? Group stage start
Just a few weeks after the draw that first match day takes place on 6th-7th September as all six rounds of group matches will be completed before the break for Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Players are due to be released to their national teams for the World Cup on Monday 14 November and as such the final group stage matches of the Champions League will fit into that schedule, with the sixth and final round taking place on 1 and 2 November.
The group stage of the Champions League has typically featured a December round of matches in previous years, but this has been postponed due to the World Cup schedule. The 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup will be the first to be held between November and December.

The 2023 final is slated to be played at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, a venue Liverpool will remember in particular.
