World Juniors playoff schedule 2022: Dates, times, matchups for knockout stage of 2022 IIHF World U20 Championship
The preliminary round is over. The rest of World Juniors 2022 is simple – survive and advance.
The knockout stages of the tournament begin on Wednesday as the field was slightly reduced from 10 to eight teams. After a week of competition in group play, the top four teams in each group advance to play for a medal.
There weren’t too many surprises in the prelims, with Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland taking the top four teams, as expected. We were in for a big surprise, however, as Latvia secured their first-ever World Juniors preliminary win, upsetting the Czech Republic to take third place in Group A.
With the victory, they edged Slovakia out of the medal fight and joined Austria as the two teams that will not advance to the knockout rounds.

Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 tournament was scheduled to take place in Gothenburg, Sweden. However, due to restrictions introduced with COVID-19, it was changed to Edmonton in September 2020. Instead, Gothenburg was reassigned for the 2024 tournament.
