Casemiro led from the front for Manchester United today. His opening goal broke the bonds and gave Erik ten Hag’s team a foothold in the game.

Marcus Rashford then added a second and United are in complete control of this final.

It’s only Marcus Rashford with him, so Weghorst goes on target and smokes a left-footed shot at goal from outside the box. It hits well, forcing Loris Karius to jump to the right to pound it over the bar!

A long ball across the field is directed to Casemiro, who passes the ball to Wout Weghorst. Weghorst makes the hard yards and carries the ball all the way to the box before slipping into Marcus Rashford.

He opens his body and looks for the long corner with his shot. Sven Botman dives back to make the block and the ball bounces off his leg and flies over Loris Karius to extend United’s lead.

Pressure on Newcastle now.

36 mins: Manchester United draw first blood but can Newcastle respond? They’ve shown enough in that first half to prove they pose a threat to United but they need to be more disciplined in front of goal.

33 mins: Marcus Rashford is brought down on the left wing. The resulting free kick is swung into the box by Luke Shaw, who places the ball perfectly on Casemiro’s head, who nods it into the far corner!
